The ninety sixth Foundation day was celebrated in this institute on Saturday 25th Oct. 2008. VIPs from nearby Agricultural Organizations, ICAR and Retired Scientists of SBI had been invited for the function.
Dr.P. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was the Chief guest and delivered an inspiring speech on Research and Spirituality. Preseidential address was given by Dr.N.Vijayan Nair, Director Sugarcane Breeding Institute briefing the past achievements and the future goals, commitments and challenges of SBI. Dr. K.C. Alexander Retd. Director, SBI and Dr. H. David, Retd. Head (Entomology) were honoured during the function for their outstanding services to sugarcane and to the organization. The first Sir T S Venkataraman biennial awards for excellence in sugarcane Research and for the best Ph.D work in sugarcane Research were presented in this function. The Function ended with a sumptuous lunch and a group photo

I missed attending the foundation day fnction as I was tied up at Trichy. Glad to know every thing went on well. The blog is a good idea for exchange of information as the Institute web site does not leave room for adding comments.
SBI had a glorious past and has a great future.
The efforts of the founding fathers of SBI in locating a sitable site and laying fondation for the future work by initiating interspecific hybridisation has led to SBI's present status. Let the present torch bearers take it to greater heights.
